Beswick is usually associated with the production of ceramic novelty items, such as flying duck wall plaques and animal fancies such as the popular range of horses, but there was a vast production of Art Deco wares in the 1930s that seems to be currently rather undervalued.

The Beswick pottery was established in 1894 by James Wright Beswick at Longton, Stoke on Trent, England. Figurines, ornaments, animals and tableware were being produced in the nineteen twenties, and the thirties saw production concentrate on solely decorative items. During this period the pottery was operating from Gold Street, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. Beswick's Art Deco output was vast with vases, jugs, wall plaques, candlesticks and baskets being produced under the trade name 'Beswick Ware'.

The Beatrix Potter characters of the late 1940s and Disney character ranges were an instant hit with collectors, and have remained highly collectable even to today. Royal Doulton now owns the company but they are essentially still in production.
